Security and Safety in your Motorhome or Caravan

Spring is coming, honestly…..

Despite the fact that we are a just getting over Storm Clara and Storm Dennis is on the way, Spring is just around the corner.

A time when many caravans and motorhomes are coming out of hibernation and are being made ready for new adventures.

Whether you are an all year round user of your leisure vehicle or a fair weather camper, it is important that all your kitchen, bathroom and electrical equipment is working correctly and safely.

Although Habitation Checks and Services are not mandatory it is a good thing to have carried out regularly. The good news is that you don’t have to traipse all the way back to the dealer where you purchased your ‘van because there are mobile engineers all over the country who will come to you at home or to your storage site.

Back last February when we were exhibiting at the Birmingham Caravan Show our next door neighbours were Approved Workshops who are the body who bring together all the independent engineers who carry out the servicing.

It was great to meet their team who carry out annual inspections of their members to ensuring they meet the rigorous standards of membership.

Or why not come and pay a visit to them next to our stand 3025 at the NEC next week.

Don’t let thieves spoil your holiday

Over the years motor vehicle security has got more and more sophisticated with an array of alarms, trackers and immobilisers available. Which are all wonderful.

But sometimes basic, visual (and effective) deterrents are the first step you can easily action to stop the undesirables getting access to you pride and joy or even worse taking it away

For your caravan door in addition the improved locks on newer models you can add Safety Blocks or D rings.

For the wheels there are wheel clamps

Inside why not fit a safe inside a bed box for example to keep your important documents in. No need to spend a fortune. For £30-£50 get one in Argos or similar

In the cab, how about a steering wheel lock?

Or at no cost (and every cab built since the 1960s has them) why not feed your seatbelts through the door armrests? This will confuse the thief and send him or her elsewhere!
